If you’re trying to lose weight or build muscle, going on vacation is challenging.
You’re away from your kitchen and your gym, and you’re surrounded by temptations, but you still want to enjoy your vacation. So it’s a fine line to walk.
You can have it both ways. You can eat out at restaurants and spend a little less time at the gym while you’re away if you can incorporate a few of the following tips.
Here’s how you can stay fit while you’re on vacation:
1. Choose To Walk
Anytime you can, choose to walk instead of getting a taxi or a bus.
You can keep track of your steps with a simple pedometer or an app on your phone, but you’d be surprised how many steps and miles you can rack up when you’re exploring a new city or a new country.
You’ll often find the best restaurants or bars by just wandering around rather than following a guide book.
2. Plan Activites
Almost anywhere you go on vacation, you can incorporate some activity or fun way of getting exercise.
If you’re on a beach vacation, don’t just lie on the beach, go for a walk. Try kayaking or surfing.
If there’s a national park nearby or trails, go for a walk or a hike.
Sign up for a walking tour of the city you’re traveling to.
There’s so many ways to fit in a little bit of exercise.
3. Take the Stairs
If you can, choose to take the stairs instead of the escalator or elevator.
Every little bit of activity adds up.
4. Commit To Do Something Every Day
If you’re on vacation, you might not want to spend time in the gym or swimming laps in the pool, but commit to doing something each day.
That could be a walk or doing a short workout in your hotel room in the morning with pushups, crunches, burpees, lunges, etc.
5. Skip Alcohol
This might be tough, but skipping the alcoholic drinks in favor of water will really add up if you’re away for a week or two.
A glass of wine or a bottle of beer with each meal will increase you’re caloric intake.
Water will keep you hydrated.
6. Have Fun
Don’t stress out too much while you’re on vacation.
Just walking and staying hydrated while you’re away will keep you on track for when you get back to your normal routine at home.
